Description: Groovy Jungle: The second program in the award-winning Groovy Music series (ages 7 and older). Teaching music has never been so easy, or so much fun! Groovy Jungle is an exciting music program for elementary school students. Fun to use, Groovy Jungle teaches the basics of sound, rhythm, pitch and composition using pictures and animation - progressing to the study of simple notation as well as major and minor scales. Groovy Jungle introduces children to notes and notation, ostinato, major and minor, and simple musical terms. More complex musical textures are explored, and additional instruments allow them to experiment further with their own compositions. Students love Groovy Jungle. It guides them with a simple voiceover and lets them create their own music as well as carry out directed activities, so there's plenty of room for creativity. In fact, Groovy Jungle is so compelling that once students start making music; they just won't want to stop! And best of all, it's incredibly easy for both teachers and students. In the Explore section, students are guided aurally through a series of progressive musical exercises and games, which teach them the fundamentals of music. In the Create section, students can put into practice what they've learned by creating their own music using a midi keyboard (not included) or Shapes. The shapes represent elements of music like rhythm, melody and chords. Students simply drag these onto the screen to build up their creation. Then they can play back their piece, edit it, or even see the elements displayed as musical notation. Groovy Jungle has a jungle themed Create mode with sounds represented by animals & plants.

Does run natively under Windows Vista or Windows 7

I found out the hard way that this program doesn't run natively under Windows 7 or Vista. The offer the following solution on their web site for Vista. I tried it on Windows 7 and it doesn't quite work (the sound becomes too distorted to use).

The three products in the Sibelius Groovy Music range -- Groovy Shapes, Groovy Jungle and Groovy City -- all rely on Adobe/Macromedia Director technology, which is currently incompatible with Windows Vista.

When you run one of the Groovy products on Windows, you will see a message that informs you Macromedia Projector has stopped working, and Groovy will not run.

To solve this, you can run Groovy in compatibility mode:

*Click the Start button
*Select Computer from the menu to see your computer's disk drives
*Navigate to C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Groovy Shapes (or Groovy Jungle or Groovy City)
*Right-click the Groovy application icon and select Properties from the context menu
*In the dialog that appears, choose the Compatibility tab, switch on Run this program in compatibility mode for: checkbox and select Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) from the drop-down list
*NOTE: If Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) doesn't work try the Windows XP (Service Pack 2) option.
*Click OK
Now run Groovy Music as normal from its icon in the Start menu. You only need to do the above procedure the first time you run Groovy Music -- thereafter you can simply run the program each time from its icon in the Start menu.

Groovy Jungle is Fantastic!!

I thought Groovy shapes was pretty amazing, but this jungle version is just fantastic! (See my review of Groovy Shapes.) I am such a Groovy Music fan, especially after this new release. Forget the nephews, I'm getting myself a copy of this. The moving animals, the sound effects ~ it's so much fun to be creative with this software. And the content side of the program has increased slightly in difficulty... just enough for the new age bracket. This is too much fun!! Kudos to Sibelius for another wonderful product!
